How to have a "Cavity - Free" Christmas!

Updated: May 21, 2020

We all love Christmas and the food and drinks that go with it! From the Christmas puddings, to the turkey carvery’s - it’s a time for indulging! We wouldn’t dream of dampening your Christmas spirit and being a grinch at Northumberland Dental Care, but as dentists, we would love for you all to enjoy the festive season free of dental problems!

Here are our top tips;

1) Go easy on the acidic drinks, the worst offenders being red wine, fruit juices and sparkling water. Mulled wine, with its high sugar and acid content is a particular offender.

2) With cheese being plentiful in every shop and every fridge, its high calcium and nutrient content make it the ideal food to eat at Christmas.

3) Try and keep sugary snacks to meal times to reduce the number of times you are intaking sugar. This will help you mouth fight the acid attack from the sugary foods and drinks!

4) Drink lots of water! Flouride added to our drinking water will help strengthen your teeth and dilute mouth acid.

5) Stand back from the Roses! Be careful of sticky, crunchy sweets, as if you have a weak tooth, filling or a loose crown, they are easily damaged and you may not get a dentist open at Christmas to help you! Lots of fillings are pulled out around Christmas by people who never usually eat sticky sweets, so be careful! #dentist #dentistdublin #dentistdublin4 #christmas #oralhygiene #flouride #water #sugar #toothbrushing #cavity
