The simplest ways to naturally reverse cavities and heal tooth decay.

Updated: May 25, 2020

Lets face it, most of you guys don't like visiting the dentist. We get it and we understand!

Well, the team here at www.nidm.ie want to let you in on a secret, there are ways you can help yourself by naturally reversing cavities and healing tooth decay. Here's a list our team have compiled just for you;

Fluoride;

Turn away fluoride avengers, but the results are in. On April 30th 2018, The Food Safety Authority has declared there are no health risks for children or adults because of exposure to fluoride in food, beverages and drinking water. The finding, based on two years of research, supports the position of the World Health Organisation on the fluoridation of drinking water and conclusions reached by the Department of Health in 2005. As many of you know, Ireland is one of the many countries in the world that add fluoride to the water supply as a public health benefit. Fluoride is also the main active ingredient in most toothpastes, and it is a dentist’s favourite preventive treatment for strengthening tooth enamel. Fluoride demineralises enamel, strengthens weakened tooth tissues, inhibits bacteria and can reverses tooth decay.

Changing your eating habits;

Changing your eating habits and switching to a healthy diet always helps boost your health, no matter what your goal is. A study published in The British Medical Journal suggested that a change in diet can actually reverse tooth decay. We already know that the consumption of products rich in sugar leads to teeth decay and that phytic acid can block the absorption of calcium. However, if you change your eating habits, you may never face such problems.

*Get more calcium. It’s the main building component of your bones and teeth. Eat dairy products every day (milk, yogurt, sour cream, and cheese).

*Drink unsweetened beverages. Avoid drinking sodas, juices, and fizzy drinks. You can try simple water, fresh milk and unsweetened tea. Water has a lot of good effects on your body including increased hydration and a higher flow of saliva which reduces dental cavities.

Chew sugar free gum;

Chewing sugar free gum can help naturally heal tooth decay by increasing saliva flow thus reducing tooth decay. Much research over the years has proved the efficacy of chewing gum, but be warned, chose sugar free varieties only and chewing for 20 minutes or more is necessary to notice an effect.

Oil Pulling;

Oil pulling is a natural ayurvedic therapy which originated in the East thousands of years ago. It involves the swishing around of oil (sesame, coconut or sunflower) in the mouth for approx. 15-20 minutes, then spitting it out. If done correctly, the viscous oil will become milky white and thinner. It is important to note, the oil is not swallowed as it will contain bacteria and toxins. It is believed by many, to reduce tooth decay, bad breath, bleeding gums, dry throat, cracked lips and appears to make the teeth whiter.
